We’re looking for a Creative Director, Copy to lead and develop our emerging writing team.
For two decades, we have partnered with companies all over the world in the Health + Wellness, Food + Beverage, and Pet + Animal industries. Our value proposition is to cultivate meaningful nutrition and lifestyle brands for people and pets.
We lead strategy sessions. We develop brand identities, websites, ads, trade show experiences, and other strategic creative. We create campaigns, presentations, and sales tools. We produce retail packaging and do custom, in-house photography and videography.
To help us better serve our partners and continue our growth as a company, we’re looking for a Creative Director, Copy (ideally with a minimum of 8 years of agency or agency-adjacent experience) to lead our writing team and guide its evolution. This is a key role for MarketPlace’s success, and it requires a steady, thoughtful, conscientious individual who can not only lead our writing offering but also partner with the Group Creative Director and Executive Director, Strategy to help lead our entire team into the next decade of doing good work.
We highly value high skill with words, but we’re not looking for an award-winning portfolio. We’re looking for a winning personality, someone who earns trust and respect through empathy, leadership, and deep knowledge of the roles that writing plays in an agency environment.
The Scoop
Big Picture
- Manage the writing team via mentorship, collaboration, project review/feedback, and example.
- Lead the writing team in the development of marketing copy, brand standards, nomenclature, identity development, and any other brand touchpoint where words matter.
- Engage with clients/partners to help them better understand the power of words in telling their story, whether through capabilities presentation, trade show booth, verbal identity, brand video, packaging, or microsite.
- Collaborate with our Group Creative Director and Executive Director, Strategy to ensure the quality of our entire service offering and to promote company values and culture.
The Rest of the Picture
- Work with the GCD, strategy team, and project management team to understand creative resource utilization and capacity, current project timelines, and schedule of upcoming project resource needs.
- Participate in the presenting and selling of creative ideas in the new business pitch process as needed.
- Offer input into agency pricing models with regard to copy elements.
- Help keep our writing team current on copy-related trends.
- Ability to concept big while remaining centered by the realities of clients, timing, and budgets.
- An insistence on the inseparability of creative and strategic thinking.
- Ability to manage and track project budgets, deliverables, and timelines.
- A specific, often intuitive ability to process client feedback without ego and come back with something even better.
- Preference given to candidates with experience in brand naming.
